Qixi – Chinese Valentine’s Day: Try Chinese Food and Experience Chinese Culture at HOT&HOT

August 5, 2022

The 4th of August, which is the 7th day of the 7th month in the lunar calendar this year, is the Qixi festival. It is known as Chinese Valentine’s Day. Especially young couples in China usually spend this day together as one for romance. At Hot&Hot, we prepared unique dishes for your surprise.

The Legend and The Festival

In a Chinese legend, a fairy Weaver Girl, the daughter of the god Jade Emperor, fell in love with a mortal boy, Cowherd. However, the father of Weaver Girl, Jade Emperor, does not support their relationship. He separated them by the Milky Way, only allowing them to meet once a year. This day is the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, which is celebrated as the Qixi festival, Chinese Valentine’s day. Today in China, the Qixi festival is mainly known for its romance. Young couples spend this day together, have a nice meal, express their feeling of love, and usually have gifts prepared.

Hot Pot

Hot pot is a Chinese version of fondue. It works simply by cooking fresh ingredients in the flavorful soup. Udon noodles, Australian Wagyu beef slices, spicy marinated beef, lotus roots…You are free to put whatever your taste bud favours in the soup to absorb the flavours of the soup.
Thus, it is a nice option to eat together with friends, family and someone special. You can choose the dishes you like and combine them creatively.
